The Night to Remember that Everyone Forgot (Paul O’Brien)

Deep down in December

We’d a night to remember

That everyone forgot

We should’ve stuck with what we knew

Instead of trying the home brew

That uncle Billy brought

It was the first time Billy tried his hand

With Tom Caxton’s special brand

He’d read the instructions through and through

Just what he should and shouldn’t do

But Billy choose to improvise

To give us all a big surprise

And liven up the crew

He didn’t give a bugger

He used three pounds of sugar

When half a pound would do

Ignoring every safety chart

Proving him an anarchist at heart

His cookery skills they proved him true

That night at auntie Connie’s do

Liamo banging out the hits

His Eco Ranger was in bits

But keeping perfect time

“My compliments again” he said

“Did you make it in the garden shed?

Oh! How those bottles shine!”

As he took another swig

His eyes they grew twice as big

The liquid slipped merrily on down

While the world was spinning around

Breda was up to her tricks

And tried a sup of the mix

To everyone’s surprise

She sang “I don’t like Mondays,

And I’m not too keen on Sundays”

The people shut their eyes

When she’d reached the second verse

She was on a roll with no reverse

Noely tried to put the handbrake on

But the crowd was lost in the realms of song

When Brenda had a sneaky sip

She put a bottle to her lips

And my that tasted fine

Billy smiled at this success

His beer had passed the party test

He was thinking about wine

We were wondering when the joy would stop

While Jackie in the kitchen watched the bottles pop

The explosions brought the ceiling down

And the bang was heard in Harmonstown

But for all the fun we had

There is one thing that makes me sad

But I can’t remember what

Oh! The memories we made that night

Never seen the morning light

Because we’d all forgot

Though we’ve lost these memories dear

Or hearts are light our conscience clear

And that mixture’s known in regions far

As Billy’s Milk of Amnesia

Deep down in December

What a night to remember

But everyone forgot

We should’ve stuck with what we knew

Instead of trying the home brew

That uncle Billy brought

It was the last time Billy tried his hand

With Tom Caxton’s special brand

He’d read the instructions through and through

Now he knows what he really shouldn’t do

The chicken and chips

And fresh white bread

Caused her to overload

By the time she’d got to the second verse

They could hear her across the road

Paddy just couldn’t stand it

He knew the thing to do

He could see no reason

‘cos there was no reason

For not breaking out the new home brew..woo..woo woo woo…
